Overview
- The DNR confirmed a phase-one rollout for hunting and fishing licenses on June 9, with the old system remaining in place until 11:59 p.m. on June 1.
- From 12:00 a.m. on June 2 through 11:59 p.m. on June 8 the department will pause license sales and suspend the requirement to carry a fishing license while it moves user data to the new platform, and fishing rules and bag limits will still apply.
- An April Office of the Legislative Auditor report found key functions — most notably the mobile app — were not fully prepared and noted earlier launch delays, and reporters have asked the DNR which findings were fixed before the June rollout.
- The new system will let people buy, store, carry and register harvests via a mobile app, a website, or at authorized agents, and it includes offline harvest recording so users can log catches without cell service.
- The DNR says it will staff extra support centers and publish user guides and how-to videos for the transition; phase two for RV and watercraft titling and registration has no announced date and the launch coincides with a proposal to cut the statewide walleye bag limit from six to four.
