Overview
- A Mini Countryman was fully engulfed by flames and the fire spread to roughly 10 metres of hedgerow and about 20 square metres of cut grass near Ireland's Cross, Woore.
- The incident took place just after 5pm on Tuesday, July 21, when crews reported a large column of black smoke coming from the vehicle.
- Market Drayton and Audlem crews deployed six firefighters in breathing apparatus, three high‑pressure hose reel jets and a hydrant water supply and brought the blaze under control in about five minutes.
- The B5026 was closed while emergency services worked and firefighters remained for around one hour to fully extinguish the fire, damp down the area and check for hotspots with no injuries reported.
- The fire is believed to have started from a mechanical defect in the vehicle's engine compartment, a reminder that vehicle fires can quickly ignite nearby dry vegetation and that fast hydrant access limits wider damage.
