Minecraft Adds Cushions and Straw Beds in Preview Builds

Mojang is testing a craftable seat plus a cheap single-use sleeping option that skips night without resetting spawn before wider release later this year.

Overview

  • The preview build that launched Tuesday, July 7 makes Cushions and Straw Beds available to opt-in testers through Java Snapshot 26.3 Snapshot 3 and Bedrock Preview 26.40.30.
  • Cushions are crafted from three wool slabs of the same color, come in 16 colors, can be placed on flat surfaces, provide a sit interaction with no collision, and break if their supporting block is removed.
  • Straw Beds are made from three hay bales to yield four beds, let players sleep through the night without changing their spawn point, break after a single use, and will explode if used in the Nether.
  • Players and creators have already started inventive uses for cushions, including whoopee-cushion note-block pranks and cushion-based movement tricks, and Mojang has noted a few known issues such as cushions not yet spawning in some Abandoned Camps.
  • The preview also updates Abandoned Camps' spawn locations, bumps Data Pack and Resource Pack versions, adds support for custom brewing recipes and post-processing options, and formalizes a long-standing community workaround for sitting that should reach the main game in a later Game Drop.
