Milwaukee Man Charged in Intermodal Station Bathroom Sexual Assault

The case has renewed pressure on the state to tighten security at the contractor-run station.

Overview

  • Prosecutors charged Cephus Tyre Johnson, 31, with three counts of second-degree sexual assault and one count of attempted second-degree sexual assault.
  • According to the criminal complaint, the attacker climbed over a restroom stall partition inside Milwaukee Intermodal Station, where security intervened and a guard fired one shot that hit no one as police arrested the suspect at the scene.
  • The complaint links Johnson to an attempted assault of a different woman near a West Wisconsin Avenue bar hours earlier, which the victim later tied to him in a photo array.
  • Investigators say Johnson stated in a Mirandized interview that if released he would kill women, and court records show he is being held on $15,000 bond.
  • Milwaukee Alderman Bob Bauman urged the Wisconsin Department of Transportation to boost security at the state-owned hub, which is operated by Milwaukee Intermodal Partners with Titan Security providing guards.
