Mike Golic Sr. Named Notre Dame Radio Color Commentator

The university added an alumnus with decades of national broadcasting experience to its radio booth as Golic returns to a renewed national radio platform.

Overview

  • Notre Dame announced on Wednesday, Aug. 5 that Mike Golic Sr. will serve as the football radio color commentator for the 2026 season, replacing Ryan Harris.
  • Golic will work in the booth with play-by-play voice Tony Simeone and studio host Johnny Soper, and he is scheduled to make his Notre Dame radio debut on Sept. 6 at Lambeau Field against Wisconsin.
  • Golic played defensive line at Notre Dame from 1981–84 and then spent about a decade in the NFL after being selected in the 1985 draft, giving him direct alumni and pro playing credentials for the role.
  • The hire follows Golic’s return this week to national radio with a new ESPN Radio show, The Golics, co-hosted with his son, Mike Golic Jr., which raises his profile for both local and national audiences.
  • Ryan Harris announced his May departure to pursue NFL and television opportunities while finishing law school, and Notre Dame’s move reflects routine personnel shifts in the sports-media landscape that can change who voices major college broadcasts.
