- The race began on Sunday, June 14 with a 05:00 start at Durban City Hall as more than 21,600 athletes set off on the up run to Scottsville, Pietermaritzburg.
- Durban Metro Police imposed road closures from midnight that affect Dr Pixley KaSeme Street, Josiah Gumede Road, the N3 west corridor to the M13, the M13 through Kloof and stretches of the R103.
- eThekwini and Msunduzi municipalities activated a coordinated operational plan that deployed traffic officers, waste management crews and cleaning teams along the route.
- Authorities expect roughly 65,000 spectators and have staged police deployments, including SAPS officers, to manage crowds and will reopen roads only after the last runner has passed each section.
- Organizers say the event will boost local spending and create temporary jobs, and several public figures are running for charity, including SARS Commissioner Ngobani Makhubu who is fundraising for the eThekwini Community Chest.
