- Mustafaa Hussain, 27, was sentenced at Teesside Crown Court to four years and ten months in custody, a seven-year-five-month driving ban, and an extended retest requirement.
- The collision happened on November 23, 2023 on Riverside Park Road when he pulled out to pass a stationary vehicle into the path of oncoming rider Mark Coleman with visibility obstructed by traffic and a highway maintenance truck.
- Forensic analysis showed he accelerated from about 32 to 42mph five seconds before impact and, a second before the crash, braked and veered left while still traveling around 40mph.
- Coleman died three days later at James Cook University Hospital, with the cause of death recorded as blunt force head trauma.
