Microsoft Unveils Halo: Campaign Evolved, a UE5 Remake Coming to PS5, Xbox and PC in 2026

The campaign-only release brings Halo to PlayStation for the first time, signaling a UE5 reset for Halo Studios.

Overview

  • The remake launches in 2026 on PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X|S and PC, and will be available day one with Xbox Game Pass.
  • Competitive multiplayer is not included; the campaign supports two-player split-screen on console and up to four-player online co-op with full cross-play and cross-progression.
  • Three new prequel missions feature Master Chief and Sgt. Johnson, adding fresh environments, enemies and story context before the original events.
  • Modernized gameplay includes optional sprint, aim-down-sights, nine additional series weapons such as the Energy Sword and Battle Rifle, vehicle hijacking and piloting a drivable Wraith.
  • The campaign is rebuilt in Unreal Engine 5 with new cinematics, improved wayfinding, remastered audio and re-recorded performances by the primary cast, plus a remix mode with the most gameplay-modifying Skulls in a Halo campaign.
