Microsoft Ships April Windows 11 Patch Tuesday Updates KB5083769 and KB5082052

The security update begins a controlled rollout of a Smart App Control toggle that users can change without reinstalling.

Overview

  • The cumulative updates, released Tuesday, deliver April 2026 security fixes to Windows 11 versions 25H2 and 24H2 (KB5083769) and 23H2 (KB5082052).
  • After installation, build numbers move to 26200.8246 for 25H2, 26100.8246 for 24H2, and 22631.6936 for 23H2.
  • The release lets users turn Smart App Control, which blocks untrusted apps, on or off without a clean install as the setting starts a gradual rollout.
  • It removes a false error from System File Checker (sfc /scannow) and brings wide reliability updates across Settings, File Explorer, displays, printing, safe mode, Voice Access, the Start menu, Remote Desktop, and audio.
  • Updates download automatically unless paused, with offline .msu installers in the Microsoft Update Catalog sized about 5.1GB for x64 and under 4.5GB for arm64, and Microsoft lists no new known issues.
