Microsoft Sets May 31, 2026 Deadline to Retire Standalone SwiftKey Accounts

Microsoft frames the shift as a security upgrade with automatic OneDrive backup for Microsoft account users.

Overview

  • Starting May 31, 2026, SwiftKey will drop Google and Apple sign-ins, making a Microsoft account the only supported login for syncing.
  • Typing data such as learned words and predictions will be stored in OneDrive linked to the Microsoft account used for SwiftKey.
  • All existing SwiftKey account data will be permanently deleted on May 31, 2026 unless users download it beforehand at data.swiftkey.com.
  • Those already using or switching to a Microsoft account before the cutoff do not need to take additional steps, as backups will occur automatically.
  • Microsoft is offering 1,000 Microsoft Rewards points to encourage the change, and the keyboard can still be used without signing in though data will not sync across devices.
