Microsoft Releases KB5075039 to Restore Windows 10 Recovery Environment

Eligible Windows 10 devices receive the repair through Windows Update if the Recovery partition has roughly 250 MB free.

Overview

  • Microsoft issued the WinRE repair on March 3, 2026, addressing a failure triggered by the October 14, 2025 KB5068164 update.
  • The update applies Safe OS Dynamic Update KB5073933 to the WinRE image to restore recovery and troubleshooting features.
  • Availability targets Windows 10 ESU and Windows 10 Enterprise LTSC 2021 on versions 21H2 and 22H2, delivered only via Windows Update.
  • Installation requires about 250–256 MB of free space in the WinRE partition, and devices without sufficient space or without a WinRE partition will not be offered the update.
  • Microsoft previously fixed a separate October 2025 issue that disabled USB input in the Windows 11 Recovery Environment, while this release resolves the lingering Windows 10 problem.
