Microsoft Lifts Surface PC Prices Up to $500 Across Lineup

The company cites surging memory costs driven by a global RAM shortage.

Overview

  • Microsoft, which updated its online Store on Monday, lifted Surface PC prices by roughly $100 to $500, with the Surface Pro 13-inch and Surface Laptop 7 now starting near $1,499 and no model under $1,000.
  • The company said higher memory and other component costs drove the move, reflecting a global RAM shortage as suppliers prioritize AI data centers.
  • Major retailers such as Amazon, Best Buy, Target, Staples, and B&H still list some stock at older prices, though reporting says those tags are likely to rise soon.
  • The hikes make many Surfaces more expensive than comparable MacBooks, with a top Surface Laptop 15 now $3,649 versus $3,300 for a 16-inch MacBook Pro, and Surface Pro keyboards still sold separately.
  • In Canada, base configurations jumped by as much as CAD 700, with the Surface Pro 13-inch now listed at CAD 2,149 before the optional keyboard.
