- The September 8 cumulative update KB5124008 has been linked to a bug that Microsoft says can stop some USB Audio Class 1.0 devices from starting or producing audio.
- Affected machines often show a Device Manager error reading “This device cannot start (Code 10),” with no sound output and unresponsive volume controls or Sound settings.
- Multichannel features such as 3D or 8‑channel audio commonly trigger the failure and some users have restored audio by switching the device back to 2‑channel stereo.
- Microsoft has posted the problem on its Windows release health dashboard and says it is investigating without a permanent fix yet, while users adopt temporary workarounds or uninstall the update at the cost of missing security patches.
