Microsoft Begins Rolling Out Xbox Mode to Windows 11 PCs

Microsoft positions the console-style view as an optional, resource-light way to browse and launch games with a controller.

Overview

  • Microsoft, which started the phased release Thursday, is delivering Xbox Mode to Windows 11 PCs in select markets through Windows Update, with early access for devices that enable “Get the latest updates as soon as they are available.”
  • Xbox Mode presents a full-screen, controller-optimized interface built on the Xbox app that gathers Xbox Game Pass titles and installed games from other PC storefronts into one library.
  • The mode trims background tasks to free system memory for play and lets users switch back to the standard Windows 11 desktop at any time.
  • The PC rollout builds on a handheld version first shipped as the Full Screen Experience on devices like the ROG Xbox Ally, with Microsoft saying player feedback from those systems shaped this release.
  • Microsoft also pushed related updates, including an Auto Super Resolution preview for the ROG Xbox Ally X and Xbox console dashboard changes such as per-game Quick Resume toggles and new custom color options.
