Micron Closes Purchase of PSMC’s Tongluo P5 Fab to Expand HBM and DRAM Output in Taiwan

Micron begins retrofitting to target fiscal 2028 shipments with a second cleanroom build slated for late fiscal 2026.

Overview

  • Micron completed the USD 1.8 billion acquisition of PSMC’s P5 site in Tongluo, Miaoli County, taking ownership of the facility.
  • The site includes about 300,000 square feet of existing 300mm cleanroom space to support leading‑edge DRAM production, including high‑bandwidth memory.
  • Micron says the Tongluo fab will complement and extend its vertically integrated Taichung campus located roughly 15 miles away.
  • PSMC and Micron began the planned collaboration, with Micron providing niche DRAM process assistance at PSMC’s Hsinchu facility and PSMC supplying HBM/post‑wafer‑finish foundry services to Micron.
  • Micron thanked Taiwan’s central and local authorities for support that enabled a swift close and ramp, and it plans a second facility adding about 270,000 square feet of cleanroom space.
