Overview
- AAA data published Monday show Michigan’s average price for regular unleaded fell to $3.96 per gallon, down about 14 cents from the prior week and the first statewide sub-$4 reading since April.
- Prices in Metro Detroit averaged $4.01 per gallon on Monday while Ann Arbor and Lansing ranked among the priciest markets and Marquette, Traverse City, and Flint reported the lowest averages.
- The current statewide average remains roughly 80 to 81 cents higher than a year ago, making a 15-gallon fill about $59 on average and roughly $8 more than last year’s peak reported in August 2025.
- The EIA’s latest weekly report shows U.S. gasoline stocks fell from 216.3 million barrels to 214 million, demand rose to about 9.2 million barrels per day, and production averaged roughly 10 million barrels per day.
- Those supply and demand moves mean short-term relief at the pump could persist or reverse depending on inventory trends, refinery output and crude oil moves that influence retail prices.
