Overview
- An announcement Thursday pairs Sheen as Antonio Salieri with Howells as Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart in Peter Shaffer’s play.
- Jeremy Herrin will direct the revival for a co-presentation by Second Half Productions and Welsh National Theatre.
- The run opens at New Theatre Cardiff from March 9–27, 2027, before a 16-week transfer to London’s Noël Coward Theatre from April 17 to August 7, 2027.
- Herrin says the staging will focus on actors and character, using limited live music rather than a full orchestra in the West End house.
- Sheen returns to the West End for the first time since Frost/Nixon in 2006, building on his history with Amadeus as Mozart in 1998–99 and Salieri in 2022.
