- The Television Academy announced on Wednesday that Michael J. Fox will be presented the Bob Hope Humanitarian Award during the 78th Primetime Emmy Awards telecast on Sept. 14.
- The prize was given on the Academy’s primetime show and will be shown on NBC and Peacock from the Peacock Theater in Los Angeles.
- The Academy said it chose Fox in recognition of his leadership in Parkinson’s research and advocacy through The Michael J. Fox Foundation.
- Fox founded the foundation after publicly disclosing his young‑onset Parkinson’s diagnosis in 1998, and the organization has supported more than $3 billion in research programs.
- The Bob Hope Humanitarian Award is rarely given and has honored only a handful of figures such as Oprah Winfrey, George Clooney, Sean Penn, and last year Ted Danson and Mary Steenburgen.
