Michael Ababio, 18, Named in Coventry Stabbing as Police Hold Teen on Murder Suspicion

Detectives are urging witnesses to submit footage via a public portal to protect the investigation.

Overview

  • West Midlands Police confirmed the victim as Michael Ababio after he was fatally stabbed near Foleshill Library on Broad Street on Sunday night.
  • A 19-year-old arrested on suspicion of murder remains in custody, and police said he is the same man found with slash wounds outside Dixy Chicken.
  • Forensic teams continue to search under cordons around the library and parts of Foleshill Road, with a blue tent in place at the scene.
  • Officers are also probing a separate disorder on Foleshill Road about 20 minutes later that is not believed to be directly related; four arrests were made overall, with one person charged with assault and remanded and others bailed.
  • Ambulance crews delivered advanced life support at the scene before Ababio was taken to hospital, and police have asked the public not to share circulating videos, instead uploading any footage to the force’s dedicated portal as extra patrols provide reassurance.
