Micah Parsons Says Week 6 Return vs. Cowboys 'Very Realistic'

Packers doctors are following a nine-month no-football guideline that sets a late-September practice checkpoint and will force a cautious ramp-up before Parsons can resume game action.

Overview

  • On Tuesday Parsons told reporters he thinks it is "very realistic" he could play in the Packers' mid-October meeting with his former team the Dallas Cowboys.
  • Parsons had surgery on Dec. 29 to repair a torn ACL and meniscus and medical staff imposed a nine-month no-football directive that makes late September the earliest point for football activity.
  • Green Bay plans a gradual return even if Parsons is cleared, and he likely will need several weeks of progressive practice and limited snaps before rejoining a full game-day role.
  • The Packers have adjusted their scheme and elevated younger edge players like Lukas Van Ness, Barryn Sorrell, Brenton Cox, Collin Oliver and Dani Dennis-Sutton to cover Parsons' early-season absence.
  • Parsons said cumulative overload and a disrupted training-camp routine with the Cowboys may have contributed to the injury and he warned opponents to worry less about timing and more about the form he will bring back to the field.
