MHSAA Releases 2026 Boys Basketball District Brackets as Top Seeds Earn First-Round Byes

Seeding based on Michigan Power Ratings set brackets using results from the first 12 weeks.

Overview

  • District play follows a uniform schedule with first-round games on Feb. 23, semifinals on Feb. 25, and most championships on Feb. 27, with winners advancing to assigned regional sites and the state finals on March 12–13 at Michigan State’s Breslin Center.
  • For the sixth straight year, the top two teams in every district receive byes into the semifinals, shortening the path for higher-ranked programs.
  • Seeds were determined by the MHSAA’s Michigan Power Ratings, which weigh a team’s record along with opponents’ and opponents’ opponents’ winning percentages and exclude the final week of regular-season results.
  • Regional outlets have published full pairings, sites and tip times statewide, including detailed brackets for Bay City, Grand Rapids, Saginaw, Flint and Kalamazoo areas.
  • District champions will feed into designated regional locations noted in local brackets, including sites such as Gaylord, Manistique, Owosso and Houghton Lake, with area coverage highlighting favorites and potential spoilers ahead of the Feb. 23 openers.
