- The MHSAA Representative Council voted Jan. 27 to expand personal branding rights, allowing student-athletes to earn compensation right away.
- Permitted activities include social media promotions, personal appearances, autograph sessions, modeling, advertising, and merchandise or sports card sales.
- Use of school names, logos, uniforms, or property is prohibited, and activities may not occur during school hours or at MHSAA events.
- Coaches or school staff cannot solicit or arrange deals, compensation cannot be performance-based or tied to school attendance, and endorsements tied to gambling, alcohol, or other restricted industries are banned.
- Athletes must disclose agreements to their school and the MHSAA within seven days or risk eligibility penalties that could also affect school membership, and Michigan is now the 46th state to allow high school NIL according to a national tracker.
