Mexico’s SEP Launches Constancia de Situación Profesional to Verify Professional Credentials

Early uptake tops two million queries, with authorities promoting it for public safety checks in high‑risk specialties.

Overview

  • The free digital record is live at cedulaprofesional.sep.gob.mx/cedula-profesional/certificaciones and can be searched by name or cédula to view or download an auto-updating constancia.
  • It consolidates the cédula profesional, colegiación, certificates, microcredentials and transversal competencies into an official, verifiable profile built on national and international standards.
  • SEP reports more than 800,000 certifications registered and over two million consultations, with a plan to add roughly 15 million further certifications and microcredentials through institutional collaboration.
  • For plastic surgery, the DGP urges patients to confirm three credentials: general medical cédula, specialist cédula in Plastic Surgery, and a current specialty certificate from the Mexican board recognized by CONACEM.
  • The initiative replaces paper-based procedures, supports employability and educational mobility under the Marco Nacional de Cualificaciones, and is intended to curb falsified professionals in fields such as medicine, law, accounting and engineering.
