Mexico Speeds Health Overhaul: ISSSTE Funds Local Upgrades as Sheinbaum Sets 10,000-Bed IMSS Target

The effort pairs beneficiary-led clinic grants with IMSS hospital construction to broaden access.

Overview

  • ISSSTE will channel more than 15 million pesos to renew equipment and perform minor works across 14 clinics and its general hospital in Querétaro under La Clínica es Nuestra.
  • La Clínica es Nuestra assigns 300,000 to 1.1 million pesos per ISSSTE unit nationwide, with a February call to form assemblies and ratify committees that decide purchases and works.
  • At CMF “Querétaro,” 1,072,086 pesos in 2025 funded a climate‑controlled medication warehouse and basic devices, with 1,100,000 pesos slated in 2026 for improvements chosen by beneficiaries.
  • ISSSTE renovated two operating rooms at the Clínica Hospital “Celaya” between December 2025 and January 2026, serving more than 141,000 people, and the unit will receive 1,100,000 pesos in 2026 via the program.
  • President Claudia Sheinbaum said IMSS will add more than 10,000 beds over 12 years, as construction advances on projects such as the Santa Catarina specialty hospital with 533 beds, 10 operating rooms and 38 specialties, alongside a 40‑billion‑peso IMSS/IMSS‑Bienestar buildout reported in Sonora.
