Mexico Sets April 2 Launch for Universal Health ID, Outlines National Registration Plan

Officials detailed a 2,898‑module registration drive to enable cross‑institution care under a reimbursement model.

Overview

  • - The government confirmed the start of Credencial Universal de Salud registration on April 2, moving the kickoff from the previously planned March date.
  • - Authorities will deploy 2,898 modules with about 17,263 trained personnel, including operators prepared by the Agencia de Transformación Digital and RENAPO.
  • - Enrollment will follow a calendar organized by age and the first letter of the surname, with the schedule to be published before the rollout.
  • - Applicants must present a photo ID, CURP and recent proof of address; minors need a birth certificate, CURP and a parent or guardian’s ID, with photo, fingerprints and other data captured at the modules.
  • - The credential will have digital and physical versions, with cards available about six weeks after registration; it supports treatment across IMSS, ISSSTE and IMSS Bienestar via institutional compensation, does not change a person’s affiliation and targets roughly 134 million people.
