Overview
- Hoy No Circula, a weekday vehicle limit to cut smog, applies under standard rules Friday from 5 a.m. to 10 p.m. to cars with blue stickers and plates ending in 9 or 0 with verification holograms 1 or 2.
- The rule covers all 16 Mexico City boroughs and the conurbated municipalities in the State of Mexico, and it also extends to the metro areas of Toluca and Santiago Tianguistenco.
- Air monitors at 6 a.m., the CAMe report showed, rated air quality as poor due to PM10 and PM2.5, yet levels did not trigger an ozone contingency or extra driving bans.
- Drivers with holograms 00 or 0, electric or hybrid cars, motorcycles, public transport, and vehicles with disability plates are exempt and can circulate freely.
- Breaking the restriction can bring a fine of 20 to 30 UMA (about 2,346 to 3,519 pesos) and possible impound, and after the late-April ozone episode was lifted on April 26 the program returned to its usual daily rotation.
