Mexico City to Roll Out Limited-Edition 2026 World Cup License Plates on March 9

Sales at the standard 1,500‑peso fee will channel roughly 90 million pesos to electromobility projects, particularly taxi electrification.

Overview

  • Applications will be handled primarily online through the App CDMX or placasmundial2026.cdmx.gob.mx using Llave CDMX, designed as a streamlined five‑minute process.
  • Eligibility is limited to private passenger vehicles, including new cars, used cars already registered in CDMX, and out‑of‑state vehicles that register in the capital.
  • Buyers can pick up plates immediately at service modules or opt for home delivery within three business days for an additional 290 pesos.
  • Authorities will open 40 extra service windows and special modules in locations such as Santa Fe, Martín Carrera, Zaragoza, Buenavista and Avenida Universidad to speed processing.
  • The initial run comprises 60,000 plates across three designs, with formal rules to be published in the Gaceta Oficial and potential expansion if demand warrants.
