Mexico City Sticks With Regular Hoy No Circula Rules on Wednesday as Air Quality Improves

The city can tighten driving limits if ozone or fine particles push the air‑quality index past the 150‑point trigger.

Overview

  • CAMe, which confirmed early Wednesday no contingency, says vehicles with red stickers and plates ending in 3 or 4 with hologram 1 or 2 must stay off the road from 5:00 to 22:00.
  • Air readings shifted from “poor” on Monday to “acceptable” by Tuesday morning, so authorities kept the standard weekly schedule rather than activating Phase 1 measures.
  • The program covers all 16 Mexico City boroughs and 18 nearby State of Mexico municipalities, and it also applies in the Toluca and Santiago Tianguistenco metro areas.
  • Common exemptions include cars with 00 or 0 verification holograms, electric and hybrid vehicles, emergency units, public transport, motorcycles, and authorized medical or school transport.
  • Fines for breaking the rules range from 20 to 30 UMAs in 2026, or about 2,250 to 3,500 pesos, and police and mobility officers can impound vehicles; officials update air reports hourly so stricter limits can return quickly if pollution rises.
