Mexico City Sets 2,026 Public Works in Motion for 2026, Prioritizing Iztapalapa Drainage

City officials present the program as catch‑up investment to boost flood resilience, modernize transit and expand social care across the capital.

  • Jefa de Gobierno Clara Brugada announced more than 2,000 million pesos for deep-drainage works in Iztapalapa to reduce recurrent flooding.
  • The water program includes rehabilitating 310 wells, modernizing six potabilization plants, adding 34 km of distribution lines and 10 km of collectors, plus 100 absorption wells and five wastewater treatment wells.
  • Transit and public-space projects feature modernization of the Taxqueña–Xochimilco Tren Ligero, construction of Trolebús Line 14 from Metro Universidad to Huipulco, a 34 km bike corridor on Calzada de Tlalpan and an elevated park between Chabacano and Tlaxcoaque.
  • Security measures call for rehabilitating police modules, purchasing 3,500 patrol vehicles, installing 30,000 surveillance cameras and beginning a hospital for police along with new SSC facilities.
  • Social infrastructure plans include 14 Utopías, seven Casas de las 3R, a Clínica Condesa in Gustavo A. Madero, expansion of two migrant shelters and 300 Caminos de Mujeres Libres y Seguras, with many works already under way or set to start as 2026 begins.
