- City authorities installed seven of a planned 26 automated public toilet modules and activated two for a free trial that runs through June 8, officials said Tuesday.
- After the trial the toilets will charge 7 pesos per use, limit sessions to nine minutes, and accept the Mobility Integrated Card and bank cards with cash payments to be enabled soon.
- The modules include universal access features, automatic cleaning and sanitization cycles, water‑saving sensors, interior and exterior lighting, soap and hand dryers, and remote monitoring for maintenance.
- The first units sit at high‑traffic spots such as Balderas by the Biblioteca de México, near the Monumento a la Revolución, Jardín del Arte Sullivan, Chapultepec‑Liverpool in Zona Rosa and outside Metro Sevilla.
- Officials say each module cost over one million pesos and was partly financed by tourism funds and the Zona Rosa trust, and they held interagency security and C5 monitoring plans to prevent vandalism and ensure upkeep.
