Overview
- The city put Line 0, called El Chapulín, into service on Tuesday as a 22.1‑kilometer electric trolebús route between CETRAM Chapultepec and Metro Universidad.
- Line 0 began operations with 60 fully electric vehicles running about every two minutes and is expected to serve roughly 60,000–65,000 passengers a day.
- Operation is shared between the public Servicio de Transportes Eléctricos, which will run 18 units, and the concessionaire COREPSA, which will run 42 units.
- The opening of Line 0 and Line 14 represents a combined investment of about 1,600 million MXN, adds roughly 79 new electric trolebuses and triggers the planned scrapping of 132 older concession vehicles.
- New vehicles can travel up to 75 kilometers off the overhead wires to handle detours, the corridors connect five alcaldías and multiple Metro and Metrobús lines, and authorities say the project will cut emissions in ways they equate to planting more than 150,000 trees and removing over 2,000 cars.
