Mexico City Metro Closes Four Stations as Rain Triggers Systemwide Slowdowns

Rain safety rules paired with repair work are straining service and lengthening commutes.

Overview

  • San Antonio Abad, Portales and Nativitas on Line 2 and Auditorio on Line 7 remain closed until further notice for rehabilitation and major maintenance, with no boarding or exit allowed at those stations.
  • Heavy rain led the Metro to apply a “marcha de seguridad,” which is a slow‑running safety mode that reduces train speed and increases spacing, affecting Lines 2, 3, 5, 8, 9, 12 and B.
  • After users flagged long waits on Line 9, Metro removed a train for inspection and then said it accelerated circulation on the line.
  • Metrobús reports normal operations across its corridors, with a localized diversion on Line 4 at Plaza de la República–Vocacional 5 due to work in the area.
  • RTP suspended service between Portales and Nativitas and directed riders to support at Viaducto, Chabacano and San Antonio Abad, while authorities urged travelers to plan ahead, consider alternate routes and top up mobility cards to ease station flow.
