Overview
- The Congress of Mexico City approved the reform unanimously on May 30, 2026 and sent a dictamen to the Chamber of Deputies to begin the federal review.
- The draft would let workers request temporary work-from-home when intense rains or other natural phenomena make travel unsafe or materially impossible.
- The proposal also broadens the right to digital disconnection so workers are not obliged to answer calls, emails or messages after their workday ends.
- The change targets modifications to articles 57 and 68 Bis of the Federal Labor Law but is not yet binding nationwide because only the Congress of the Union can amend federal law.
- If the federal Congress approves the text employers would be required to allow remote work for roles compatible with telework and protections against sanctions would depend on the final statutory wording and implementation rules.
