Mexico City Keeps Regular ‘Hoy No Circula’ as No Contingency Is Declared

Officials reported air quality below Phase 1 triggers, keeping expanded driving bans off.

Overview

  • Authorities did not activate an environmental contingency, so no Double Hoy No Circula is in effect and the program remains on its standard schedule.
  • For Wednesday, March 18, vehicles with red sticker, plates ending in 3 or 4, and holograms 1 or 2 were restricted from 5:00 to 22:00.
  • For Thursday, March 19, vehicles with green sticker, plates ending in 1 or 2, and holograms 1 or 2 will face the regular restriction window.
  • Morning readings showed generally good air quality citywide, with later updates noting localized poor conditions in Azcapotzalco, Gustavo A. Madero and Tultitlán that did not meet contingency thresholds.
  • The rules apply across all 16 CDMX boroughs and 18 conurbated Edomex municipalities from 5:00 to 22:00; exemptions include 00/0 holograms, electric or hybrid cars, emergency and public transport, and violations carry 20–30 UMA fines (about 2,250–3,519 pesos) enforced by SSC and Semovi with possible impoundment.
