Mexico City Electoral Institute Launches Dialogue Sessions To Address Gender-Based Political Violence In Indigenous Communities

The meetings aim to document community-specific obstacles to justice to inform targeted institutional actions.

Overview

  • The IECM held the first Intercultural Dialogue Table in Cuajimalpa at the Centro Cultural Cuajimalpa with traditional authorities, community leaders, women in public roles, rights defenders, and local residents.
  • Participants examined gender perspective basics, manifestations of political violence against women, and the roles of electoral authorities, while sharing testimonies to shape tailored proposals.
  • The institute plans to continue these sessions in additional areas of the capital to build differentiated responses for community contexts.
  • The exercise responds to the Mexico City Regional Electoral Court ruling SCM-JDC-89/2025, which directs strengthened mechanisms for women facing political violence in these settings.
  • This initiative takes place during IECM’s participation in the global 16 Days campaign running Nov. 25–Dec. 10, following a Dec. 2 session where Consejera Maira Melisa Guerra outlined cross-area actions and invited the public to follow official social channels for updates.
