Mexico City Debuts Virtual Integrated Transit Card for NFC Phones

The rollout marks a step toward wider fare integration across regional rail, starting with El Insurgente.

Overview

  • The STC Metro launched a Virtual Tarjeta de Movilidad Integrada that lets riders pay by tapping compatible smartphones at validators via the App CDMX.
  • The digital card is live for NFC‑enabled Android and some Huawei devices, while iPhone compatibility remains in development.
  • Use spans the Movilidad Integrada network, including Metro, Metrobús, Cablebús, Trolebús and Tren Ligero, with agencies also listing RTP and Ecobici linkages.
  • Activation requires the App CDMX, an initial in‑app recharge and NFC enabled on the phone, with internet needed for activation and top‑ups; CoDi and bank cards are available payment options.
  • Officials confirmed the card already works on the Tren Interurbano El Insurgente, and studies are underway to extend compatibility to future CDMX–AIFA and CDMX–Pachuca services.
