Mexico City Begins Line 2 Metro Rehabilitation With Sunday Station Closures and Split Operations

The program directs 1 billion pesos on Line 2 to replace decades‑old systems for safer, more reliable rides.

Overview

  • Three Line 2 stations — San Antonio Abad, Chabacano and Viaducto — are closed all day on Sundays, with early closures at 22:00 Monday–Friday and 20:00 on Saturdays now in effect.
  • Trains are running in two segments, Cuatro CaminosPino Suárez and TasqueñaXola, with free RTP buses bridging XolaPino Suárez.
  • The adjustments began the week of February 9 as rehabilitation advances, with officials saying works will run through the year and local reports estimating the special hours through May.
  • The overhaul spans 16 stations from Tasqueña to Revolución, renewing pump stations, track ballast and sleepers, signaling, cameras and the firefighting network, plus work on 28 trains.
  • The broader program totals 1.5 billion pesos, including 1 billion for Line 2, and city officials say talks with the Metro union have paused planned mobilizations to avoid service disruptions.
