Mexican Senate Authorizes Cuauhtémoc’s 2026 Pacific Training Voyage

The green light signals a return to overseas training for the Navy’s sail ship after the fatal Brooklyn Bridge crash.

Overview

  • The Senate approved the departure of 332 Navy personnel for the Pacífico Norte 2026 cruise, scheduled from July 15 to October 15, 2026.
  • The ship will sail from Acapulco to Honolulu, Seward in Alaska, Victoria in Canada, then San Francisco and San Diego before returning to Acapulco.
  • It is the first foreign deployment since the May 17, 2025 collision with New York’s Brooklyn Bridge that killed two mariners and injured more than 20.
  • The contingent will include 184 captains, officers, petty officers and sailors, plus 148 instructors and midshipmen from the 2021–2025 class, totaling 332 people.
  • Senate backers said the voyage provides real command experience and projects a peaceful image of Mexico, with outlets reporting the vote as either 89 in favor or 85, reflecting broad support.
