Mexican Senate Approves 12 U.S. Special Operators for Joint Training

Lawmakers attached a requirement for Mexico’s Defense Ministry to file results within 30 days of the training’s conclusion.

Overview

  • The Senate authorized the temporary entry with 91 votes in favor and six abstentions for a five‑month training mission.
  • Members of the U.S. 7th Special Forces Group will train with Mexican units from February 27 to July 15 at facilities in Temamatla, San Miguel de los Jagüeyes, and Cozumel.
  • The curriculum covers urban combat, tactical medicine, sniper operations, counter‑IED and drone measures, and maritime infiltration.
  • Entry and return are scheduled on U.S. Air Force aircraft on February 27 and July 15, according to the official filing.
  • Movimiento Ciudadano abstained and is pressing for briefings from security officials, and the approval follows last week’s separate authorization for 19 U.S. Navy personnel.
