Mexican Army Locates 625 Narcominas as CJNG Advances in Michoacán

The high count has prompted a 10,000-strong federal deployment to carry out active demining to protect civilians.

Overview

  • Sedena reported on Friday that the Armed Forces have found 625 improvised explosive devices and explosives delivered by drones in Michoacán since November 2025.
  • Active demining operations are focused on Tierra Caliente, notably the El Guayabo–El Alcalde route and the Apatzingán area, where military teams are clearing and neutralizing artefacts.
  • About 10,000 Army and National Guard personnel are deployed under Plan Michoacán por la Paz y la Justicia, supported by helicopters, aircraft, drones and specialized detection equipment.
  • The Defence Ministry says it has specialized personnel for mine detection, is developing anti‑mine vehicles with the military industry and is evaluating the purchase of drones that can detect explosives.
  • Authorities have reported arrests of mostly Colombian nationals linked to placements and say they have identified a CJNG leader operating in the state, a development that raises the risk to civilians and could drive further security and technology investments.
