Overview
- The Mets announced Monday they will retire No. 15 and induct Carlos Beltrán into the team Hall of Fame in a Sept. 19 pregame ceremony against the Phillies at Citi Field.
- The club shifted him off the previously planned May 30 group induction with Lee Mazzilli and Bobby Valentine to give him a standalone jersey-retirement day.
- Beltrán enters the National Baseball Hall of Fame on July 26 in Cooperstown and chose a Mets cap for his plaque, joining Tom Seaver and Mike Piazza in that distinction.
- He will be the ninth Mets player to have his number retired, and outfielder Tyrone Taylor will switch from No. 15 to No. 28.
- Beltrán now works as a special assistant to president of baseball operations David Stearns, and the honor follows his 2020 exit as manager over the Astros sign-stealing scandal and his 2023 return.
