Metro Transit to Replace Blue Line Trains With Buses This Summer

Overview

• Metro Transit said buses will replace all Blue Line trains between Target Field and Mall of America from June 29 to Aug. 19, 2026 to allow track and signal work.
• The west end of the Green Line from West Bank to Target Field will run on replacement buses July 1–26 and again Aug. 16–19 with partial downtown service timed around summer events.
• Trains are operating on a single track through Cedar‑Riverside and Franklin Avenue from June 16 through June 28 as crews prepare for the full shutdown and riders should watch which side of platforms is open.
• Replacement buses will stop at or near stations about every 15 minutes and Metro Transit is directing riders to alternate services such as the METRO D Line, METRO E Line and increased Route 94 service while staff guide riders to relocated stops and Hiawatha Avenue boarding points.
• The Blue Line is about 22 years old so the work will include station upgrades like real‑time signs and shelter glass and Metro Transit warns bus trips may take longer because of traffic and detours so riders should plan extra time and sign up for real‑time alerts.
