Overview
- The Sistema de Transporte Colectivo (STC) Metro opened the exhibition “Códice Azcatitlan. Caminatas ilustradas de México-Tenochtitlan” on Wednesday in the Pino Suárez corridor on Line 2, showing a large-format reproduction of the manuscript.
- Organizers presented the show with support from the French embassy, the federal and city culture secretariats, INAH and research partners to widen public access to the codex’s images and story.
- The reproduction spans key episodes of Mexica history—the departure from Aztlán, the founding of Mexico-Tenochtitlan, the Spanish conquest and early colonial years—so commuters can view detailed pictographs without moving the fragile original.
- Officials who attended the opening included Diego Prieto Hernández, Delphine Borionne, Adrián Rubalcava, Alejandra Frausto, Ana Francis López Bayghen and Joel Omar Vázquez, signaling government and diplomatic backing for the project.
- The original Códice Azcatitlan is held in the Bibliothèque Nationale de France’s Fondo Mexicano and, according to organizers, is expected to travel to Mexico for a separate exhibition in the coming autumn though that transfer remains a developing arrangement.
