Meth Found Hidden Inside McDonald’s McMuffin During Broome Traffic Stop

WA Police released bodycam footage and discussed the discovery on their podcast to highlight stepped-up efforts to disrupt local meth supply.

Overview

  • Police stopped a vehicle in Broome and say officers discovered a clear ziplock bag of methylamphetamine secreted between the bacon and egg of a McDonald’s McMuffin during a search on August 20.
  • A 39-year-old man from Derby was arrested at the scene and has been charged with possession of a prohibited drug with intent to sell or supply and is due to appear in magistrates’ court in September.
  • Detectives say the stop followed surveillance of an ‘address of interest’ in the West Kimberley and that searches were carried out under the Misuse of Drugs Act as part of a targeted operation.
  • WA Police published body-camera footage and featured the find on the WA Police Confidential podcast to show evidence handling and to underline how suppliers are using increasingly creative hiding places.
  • Broome detectives say they have focused on the meth trade for about a year, reporting more inventive concealment methods, and a separate August 29 arrest of a 21-year-old allegedly travelling from Perth to sell drugs is also before the courts.
