Meta’s Muse Tops App Store as Company Pushes Paid AI Subscriptions

Strong early uptake has boosted Meta’s stock, putting pressure on the company to prove Muse can be a reliable paid service before its Meta Connect roadmap update.

Overview

  • Meta launched Muse as a consumer personal AI agent on Sept. 8 and the app rapidly climbed to No. 1 on Apple’s U.S. App Store within about a week.
  • Muse runs inside a per-user secure virtual machine that Meta says lets the agent browse, fill forms and act across email, calendar, payments and other apps while asking users for approval before sensitive actions.
  • Meta introduced paid Muse tiers and the Meta One subscription program, which the company says has already reached about 15 million subscriptions and trials.
  • Early downloads helped lift Meta’s shares roughly 10% since the launch and prompted Wall Street bullishness, with analysts citing Meta Connect as a near-term catalyst for further AI product and model news.
  • Internal testing reportedly found security lapses, including an incident that exposed private iCloud photos, and Meta has added permission controls, monitoring agents and plans for an encrypted VM to address privacy and regulatory risks.
