Meta’s Muse Adds Spotify and Bank Links as Retailers Push Back

The expansion of Muse’s connectors highlights a clash over how much account access personal AI agents need to act for users and whether platforms will allow that level of control.

Overview

  • Muse can now control Spotify to play music, save songs, build playlists and create a Personal Podcast when users link their accounts, and it already has read-only Plaid access to more than 12,000 U.S. financial institutions for balances and transaction history.
  • Amazon has blocked Muse from making purchases on its site, saying the agent does not properly identify itself and poses identity and security risks to the retailer’s platform.
  • Security researchers and privacy advocates say Muse’s always-on design and childlike mascot risk confusing users about data access, while critics point to reported macOS issues and argue Meta’s VM and Sentinel gate claims have not been independently validated.
  • Meta is developing a physical Muse Charm keychain device with camera and fingerprint activation that the company says could ship by the 2026 holiday season, but the gadget’s final design, price and privacy guarantees remain unconfirmed.
  • Early user uptake and high analyst marks, including a top ranking on a recent assistant benchmark, have driven investor enthusiasm and prompted rivals such as OpenAI to rush always-on agent products, raising questions about competition, regulation and real-world platform limits.
