Meta to Remove Horizon Worlds From Quest in June, Shifts Platform to Mobile

Weak uptake plus steep Reality Labs losses push Meta to refocus on AI and wearables.

Overview

  • Meta says Horizon Worlds will disappear from the Quest Store by March 31, 2026 and be removed from headsets on June 15, after which access continues only via the Meta Horizon mobile app.
  • Horizon-specific perks in the Meta Horizon Plus subscription—such as Meta Credits, digital clothing, avatars and in‑world purchases—will end by March 31, with core MH+ gaming benefits unchanged.
  • Meta Horizon Hyperscape Capture will move out of Worlds by March 24, and users will no longer be able to share, invite or co‑experience Hyperscapes with others.
  • The shift follows years of low adoption for Horizon Worlds, which never exceeded a few hundred thousand monthly active users, and multibillion‑dollar losses that have totaled roughly $70–80 billion for Reality Labs.
  • Meta says it still plans to invest in VR hardware with a future headset roadmap, even as it trims Reality Labs, closes internal VR studios and concentrates resources on AI initiatives and wearable products.
