Meta Takes 30% Stake as Reliance Finalizes ₹853.2 Crore AI Joint Venture

The venture will build sovereign, enterprise-ready AI services for Indian institutions using Meta’s Llama models on Reliance’s infrastructure.

Overview

  • Reliance Enterprise Intelligence Ltd (REIL) allotted 85,31,75,000 shares at ₹10 each to Reliance Intelligence (70%) and Facebook Overseas, a Meta unit (30%), according to a February 25 filing.
  • Reliance Intelligence invested ₹596.6 crore and Facebook Overseas invested ₹256.6 crore, taking the total to ₹853.2 crore.
  • Following the allotment, REIL shifts from a step-down wholly owned subsidiary to a step-down subsidiary with Meta as a strategic minority partner.
  • RIL said the REIL–Facebook Overseas deal is not a related-party transaction, while the REIL–Reliance Intelligence deal is related-party but conducted on an arm’s-length basis.
  • Set up in October 2025 after an AGM announcement in August, the JV plans an enterprise AI platform-as-a-service and pre-configured offerings for functions like sales, finance and IT to lower deployment costs.
