Overview
- Meta and AWS disclosed Friday a multi-year, multibillion-dollar agreement to deploy tens of millions of Graviton5 CPU cores, making Meta one of the largest Graviton customers.
- The new capacity targets CPU-heavy agentic AI tasks such as real-time reasoning, code generation, search, and coordinating multi-step workflows.
- AWS said the rollout starts now, will run roughly three to five years, and will place most of the cores in U.S. data centers.
- Each Graviton5 chip uses a 3‑nanometer process, includes 192 Arm-based cores, and adds larger caches that lift performance by up to about 25% versus the prior generation.
- Meta cast the move as part of a broader compute diversification strategy, while AWS designs the chips and has them manufactured by TSMC for delivery as cloud instances rather than direct chip sales.
