Meta Rolls Out Muse Spark, First AI From Its Superintelligence Labs

The proprietary system will replace Llama in Meta AI across apps in the coming weeks.

Overview

  • Meta, which unveiled Muse Spark on Wednesday, says the first Superintelligence Labs model now powers the Meta AI app and website and will reach WhatsApp, Instagram, Facebook, Messenger and its smart glasses next.
  • Muse Spark is built to be small and fast and it is multimodal, so it can read images as well as text and return visual, personalized answers with features like a shopping mode and limited task automation.
  • Meta says it trained the model with input from more than 1,000 doctors to give more useful health guidance and to handle questions that include photos, charts or scans.
  • Company tests report clear gains over earlier Meta models in writing and reasoning and results that approach leading rivals, though scores in coding still lag.
  • By keeping Muse Spark proprietary, Meta signals a turn from its open Llama playbook after a costly push that created Superintelligence Labs under Alex Wang, as the industry debates access and safety following Anthropic’s decision to restrict its Mythos model.
